Linked to Pinterest!

After a few hours of trying to figure out how to link my Pinterest account to my Google Blog...yippee I figured it out. It's the small things in life that make me happy these days. :-)

1st Grader Geometric Shape Scarecrows

First Graders in the Bell Art room have been very busy this Fall working on shape recognition in drawing and painting. We are quickly moving away from use of "tracers" and are beginning to free hand geometric and organic shapes from imagination and from observation. "You can draw anything if you can recognize the shapes in the object." The 1st graders have been working on a series of drawing and paintings based upon simple geometric shapes. Through this directed drawing the kids developed scarecrows with the use of circles, squares, ovals, rectangles and trapezoids.

National Art Educator's Conference - New York, NY

It's been a busy month in the Bell Art room. After a very successful winter concert in the end of January, students have been busy at work studing the art work of Chuck Close, Jim Dine and Wassily Kandinsky. Not to mention the claywork done by the K-3 art students.
The close of February brought a great adventure for my professional studies, I attended the National Art Educators Conference in New York City. The workshops in K-12 arts education were inspiring. I especially enjoyed the hands on workshop on visual journaling that I am excited to introduce to my students later this spring.

Bell School 2012 Winter Concert!

We just completed the Bell School 2012 Winter Concert with our second and third grade kids. The program is a team effort by the Music Teacher, Francesca Simone, Physical Education Teacher, Amie Baker and myself. We had two concert nights, splitting the second and third grade classes so each performance has a mix of grade levels. The program was awesome. It was a great cross connection in the art, music and dance.
Congratulations to all our Bell school students who participated!

January's Flying By....

January has kept us busy in the Bell School Fine Arts department. The third graders just completed a unit on symmetry. I "borrowed" this assignment from a wonderful art teacher here on the North Shore...Thank you Ursina!
I will be taking some formal shots of the art this week. Here are a couple of images while the kids work working on their masks.
